On Memorial Day, the bugle call Taps will be sounded at sacred resting places across this nation. This mournful tune reminds us that our freedom was purchased not by those who of a “super race” or who were pawns of a totalitarian scheme. It was purchased with the blood of those who loved with the greatest human love possible: “”¦He lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

Ever feel like Bull Meecham (AKA “the Great Santini” from the movie of the same name)? In an early scene, the Marine fighter pilot portrayed by Robert Duvall sits at breakfast perusing his newspaper. He mutters “Castro”¦”, “de Gaulle”¦” and then stands to his feet and bellows to the heavens, “God! Why did you put so many jerks in the world at the same time?” Those who daily drive the Tollway or navigate Preston and Main wonder the same thing.
