The most common observation of young people in relation to the church’s relationship with science is “the church is too confident it knows all the answers.” This is becoming a prevalent concern for young Christians entering the scientific communities as, by their perception, their livelihood is questioned and leered at by their faith. A quarter of those polled believe that the church is flat-out against science.

Out of the young adults polled in the Barna Group study, 31 percent expressed the opinion that church is boring. In a microwave-ready, instant download society, this perception is likely with anyone under the age of 30. It’s simply how most of us have grown up. What is more disturbing is that 23 percent of those polled felt “the Bible is not taught clearly or often enough,” while 20 percent said God seems missing from their experience of church.

Reason #1- Churches seem overprotective.
As one who has grown up in the heyday of the Information Revolution, I can attest to the notion that today’s young people have more access to information and differing viewpoints than at any other point in history. With that being said, it’s easy to see how the church can be viewed as stifling in an age where we are constantly bombarded by different ideas.
